Counter and rental clerks almost always work indoors in comfortable air temperatures. They have a lot of contact with others, normally spending a great deal of time on the telephone and some time in face-to-face discussions. Dealing with customers is a fairly important part of this work. This job allows workers to have a fair amount of freedom to structure their work and a moderate amount of freedom to make decisions. Being able to work well as part of a team and to be accurate is very important in this work. They also need to be able to quickly repeat the same tasks. The number of hours counter and rental clerks work each week varies depending on the work setting and other factors.
