Work Place

Utilities meter readers commonly work outdoors with ongoing exposure to the weather. To remain healthy in this occupation, people must wear suitable clothing and protective or safety gear. Workers will typically use their hands to handle, control or feel objects, tools, or controls and may receive minor cuts, scrapes or burns. They may be required to quickly repeat similar tasks, and accuracy is very important in this work. They also need to be able to work independently and as part of a team. Their workdays may include face-to-face discussions, and they may experience stress in this job due to time pressure. Utilities meter readers mostly work outdoors; however, some tasks may be performed inside in non-climate controlled settings. Many work full time.
