On a typical workday, floor layers frequently kneel, crouch, stoop, or crawl as well as use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Exposure to contaminated materials is not unusual. They have occasional contact with people and normally spend some time using the telephone and discussing things with others face-to-face. This job allows workers to have a fair amount of freedom for structuring their work and making decisions. The results of their decisions have some impact on other staff and their companies. Floor layers sometimes have to take responsibility for work outcomes and results. Being able to work well as part of a team is very important in this work.
